Then, between 2013 and 2018, he completed his specialty training at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, and received the title of Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist. He prepared his specialty thesis on ""Cost-Effectiveness Analysis in Revision Knee Arthroplasty"".
After his specialty training, he worked as an Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Training and Research Hospital between 2018 and 2020 and at Batman Training and Research Hospital between 2020 and 2024. In 2024, he joined the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, and he currently continues his academic and clinical work at Medipol University Bahçelievler Hospital. In July 2026, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Interuniversity Board.
Assoc. Prof. Erdal Güngör, MD's areas of interest include knee, shoulder, foot-ankle and hand surgery, arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries, arthroplasty surgery (knee-hip replacement), trauma surgery, spine surgery, pediatric orthopedics and musculoskeletal diseases. In recent years, he has been conducting studies particularly on artificial intelligence applications in orthopedics, deep learning-based image analysis, automated evaluation of magnetic resonance images and clinical decision support systems. Biomarkers in musculoskeletal diseases, rehabilitation outcomes and patient-centered clinical research are also among his areas of interest.
He has published numerous scientific articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, with publications particularly in journals such as Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, Acta Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology and Turkish Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has also presented numerous oral and poster presentations at national and international congresses and shared his research at various international scientific meetings, notably EFORT.
Assoc. Prof. Erdal Güngör, MD has authored chapters in scientific books published in the field of orthopedics and traumatology and is the author of national and international book chapters titled Pelvis and Thigh Emergencies, Osteoarthritis, Indications and Technique of Patellar Resurfacing in Knee Arthroplasty, Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Injury and Pelvic Trauma.
Adopting an evidence-based medicine approach in his scientific work, Assoc. Prof. Erdal Güngör, MD continues his research in clinical research, artificial intelligence-assisted orthopedic diagnostic systems, sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery and joint surgery. His long-term goal is to produce international-level scientific work that will improve patient diagnosis and treatment processes by integrating artificial intelligence, image processing and biomedical technologies with clinical practice in orthopedics and traumatology.
