Highlights

Asst. Prof.  Kubilay Sabuncu, MD was born in Eskişehir in 1986. He completed his medical education at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2011.

He completed his Urology residency at University of Health Sciences Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital in 2018 and received the title of Urology Specialist. He completed his specialty thesis titled ""Retrospective evaluation of the effects of ureteral double J catheter placement and percutaneous nephrostomy on renal function and quality of life in the treatment of hydronephrosis due to unilateral acute obstruction in patients without renal failure"".

After his specialty training, he completed his state service obligation between 2018 and 2020 at

Bursa Karacabey State Hospital. Between 2020 and 2021, he worked as a urology specialist at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital.

Since 2021, he has been working at the Urology Clinic of Istanbul Medipol University Medipol Mega University Hospital, and in 2023 he was awarded the title of Assistant Professor.

He has taken part as a speaker or participant in numerous national and international congresses, courses and scientific meetings. He has more than 25 scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters; his work has received more than 375 citations in the literature, and his h-index has reached 13.

Not seeing his clinical practice as separate from his research, Asst. Prof.  Kubilay Sabuncu, MD focuses on turning questions arising from daily outpatient clinic and operating room experience into scientific questions. He closely follows methods that enable earlier diagnosis, such as urine-based molecular tests in bladder cancer and image-guided biopsy in prostate cancer. He prioritizes minimally invasive approaches in endourology and uro-oncology, and regards multidisciplinary evaluation as the standard in areas requiring teamwork, such as kidney transplantation and reconstructive urology. Bringing the experience he has gained from international research collaborations and congress organizations into his clinical practice, Sabuncu prefers to make treatment decisions together with each patient, taking into account not only the biology of the disease but also the patient's life expectancy and priorities.
