Highlights
Asst. Prof. Okan Tezgel MD continues to see patients in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Bahçelievler Medipol University Hospital in Istanbul. In his clinical practice, he applies current surgical techniques in arthroscopic (closed) surgery, sports surgery, conventional and robotic arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty, deformity surgery, limb lengthening surgery, foot and ankle surgery, trauma surgery and orthobiologic treatments, with treatment approaches planned according to the patient's needs. His goal is to support his patients' healthiest possible return to daily life and sports through accurate diagnosis, safe treatment planning and effective rehabilitation.
Dr. Tezgel follows current approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of joint and soft tissue injuries, particularly knee, hip, shoulder and ankle problems common in active individuals and athletes. With his experience particularly in sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery, he evaluates both surgical and conservative (non-surgical) options in line with the patient's expectations and clinical findings. In suitable patients, orthobiologic treatments that support the healing process can also be integrated holistically into the treatment plan.
Having begun his professional career as a general practitioner at Burdur State Hospital between 2015 and 2016, Dr. Tezgel deepened his expertise in orthopedics and traumatology by continuing his academic and clinical work at Istanbul Bezmialem Vakıf University between 2017 and 2022; during this period, he took part in scientific research and closely followed current developments in his field.
Having served as clinical chief at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic of Van Regional Training and Research Hospital between 2022 and 2024, Dr. Tezgel worked with a wide patient population during this period in arthroscopic surgery, arthroplasty and revisions, deformity surgery and complex fracture treatment. He gained significant experience in specialized operations such as shortening total hip arthroplasty, particularly in cases of hip osteoarthritis due to high hip dislocation.
Having resumed seeing patients at Bahçelievler Medipol University Hospital and Esenler Medipol Hospital in 2024, Dr. Okan Tezgel has continued his duties solely at Bahçelievler Medipol University Hospital since 2025. In January 2026, he received the title of Assistant Professor and continues his academic duties at the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic of Medipol University. Regularly attending national and international training programs and courses to keep his professional development continuous, Dr. Tezgel closely follows current surgical approaches; he also shares his experience on academic platforms by taking part as a speaker (session/invited speaker) and giving presentations at scientific meetings and congresses held in Türkiye and abroad. Together with this academic responsibility, he aims to offer his patients more evidence-based and personalized treatment plans by placing a scientific approach and current treatment standards at the center of his clinical practice.
