Dr. Tansel Çakır completed his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and his specialization training in Nuclear Medicine at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, in 2010, earning the title of Nuclear Medicine Specialist. During his specialization training, he gained clinical and academic experience as a short-term scholar at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Emory University in the United States.
Following his specialization, he served as a specialist physician at the Nuclear Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Çorlu State Hospital (2010–2011) and subsequently at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at GATA Military Hospital (2011–2012) during his military service. Since 2013, he has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine.
In clinical practice, he has extensive experience in all areas of oncological molecular imaging, particularly 18F-FDG PET/CT, 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT, 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT, sentinel lymph node imaging, and treatment response assessment. His academic interests include the use of PET/CT in the diagnosis, staging, and assessment of treatment response in lymphoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, and neuroendocrine tumors; brain PET/CT and SPECT imaging in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and corticobasal degeneration; cardiac nuclear medicine applications; and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in clinical nuclear medicine.
Dr. Çakır serves as a Sub-Investigator in 10 international multicenter Phase II/III clinical trials sponsored by BeiGene, Geron, Sanofi, MSD, and Roche at Istanbul Medipol University Hospital. In these trials, he is responsible for conducting and reporting PET/CT imaging for the assessment of treatment response.
As part of his academic activities, since 2013, he has taught Radiology and Nuclear Medicine courses and supervised clinical rotations at Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine and the International Faculty of Medicine. He also supervises graduate theses within the Health Physics Program of the Institute of Health Sciences and teaches Nuclear Medicine Imaging Techniques in the Medical Imaging Techniques Associate Degree Program. During the spring semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, he also taught Nuclear Medicine courses in English to third-year students at the Faculty of Medicine of Cyprus International University.
Dr. Çakır has 18 publications indexed in Web of Science, 77 citations, and an h-index of 5. He aims to provide up-to-date, evidence-based care in accordance with international standards while contributing to medical education and academic research in the field of Nuclear Medicine.

The candidate serves as a Sub-Investigator in 10 different international multi-center Phase 2/3 clinical trials conducted at Istanbul Medipol University Hospital. Sponsors include BeiGene Switzerland, Geron Corporation, Sanofi, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), and Roche. These studies involve evaluating the efficacy and safety of next-generation targeted therapies and immunotherapies for the treatment of hematologic malignancies (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, classical Hodgkin lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma, myelofibrosis, multiple myeloma) and solid tumors (HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer). The candidate is responsible for conducting and reporting 18F-FDG PET/CT and other molecular imaging methods used to assess treatment response in these trials.
