Op. Dr. (Surgeon) İRFAN KARALAR

Surgeon İrfan Karalar was born in Istanbul in 1966. He completed his medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine; he completed his General Surgery specialty training at the same institution between 1991 and 1996 and received the title of General Surgery Specialist. He prepared his specialty thesis titled **“Retrospective Evaluation of Cases Undergoing Radical Surgical Intervention for Pancreatic Head and Periampullary Tumors”**. Having worked at various healthcare institutions throughout his career, Karalar worked as **Chief Physician / General Surgery Specialist** at Private Balkan Hospital between 1998 and 2004. He worked at Private Nisa Hospital between 2004–2013 and 2013–2022, and also served at Mega Medipol Hospital in 2013. Since 2022, he has been seeing patients at Medipol Bahçelievler Hospital. His clinical areas of interest include hemorrhoid (piles) treatments (Longo procedure, laser hemorrhoidoplasty), pilonidal sinus treatment (minimally invasive laser and flap rotation operations), perianal region surgery and anal fissure (Botox) applications. He is also interested in laparoscopic hernia surgery (inguinal hernia – TEP; umbilical hernia – IPOM), gallbladder surgery and, within the scope of endocrine surgery, the surgical treatment of Thyroid and Parathyroid diseases. In thyroid surgery, he follows current approaches such as intraoperative nerve monitoring. Surgeon İrfan Karalar regularly attends scientific meetings and training programs in his field. The events he has attended include the 10th National Endocrine Surgery Congress (2021), “Current Guidelines in Thyroid Cancer Treatment” (2021), “Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring in Thyroid Surgery” (2021) and “Parathyroid Gland Diseases” (2020).
