Highlights
Prof. Dr. İsa Aykut Özdemir was born in Adana in 1975. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in his hometown of Adana, and his medical education at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Ministry of Health Istanbul Bakırköy Maternity and Children's Diseases Hospital in 2006, becoming a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
After completing his specialty training, he served for one year as a medical second lieutenant at Ağrı Military Hospital, and then carried out his compulsory service at Batman Kozluk State Hospital and Istanbul Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital. Following his compulsory service, he continued to work as a specialist physician at Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Hospital. During this period he carried out studies and numerous operations in the fields of laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and robotic surgery. In 2008 he completed diploma training in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy at World Laparoscopy Hospital (New Delhi, India), and in 2009 in robotic surgery at IRCAD EITS (Strasbourg, France).
In 2011 he began subspecialty training at the Gynaecologic Oncology Clinic of the Ministry of Health İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital; in 2012 he received training in single-port surgery at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Regina Elena (Rome, Italy; Prof. Dr. Enrico Vizza). In 2014 he returned to Istanbul Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital to carry out his compulsory service as a specialist in gynaecologic oncology surgery.
Between 2015 and 2020 he held training and administrative responsibilities at the Gynaecologic Oncology Clinic of Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital, during which time he enabled the clinic to provide training in gynaecologic oncology surgery and led the education of numerous gynaecologic oncology fellows. In 2019 he also secured the accreditation of the Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital Gynaecologic Oncology Clinic by the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO), one of the most prestigious societies in the field. During this period he likewise pioneered the performance of numerous advanced oncological operations both laparoscopically and robotically.
Throughout his professional career he has worked actively in the management of gynaecological cancers and premalignant conditions and their treatment in particular, as well as endometriosis, urogynaecological surgery, obstetric complications and diseases requiring complex benign gynaecological surgery; he has taken part in numerous advanced surgical procedures, clinical applications and academic activities. He has many scientific articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, and his work has received numerous citations in the national and international literature.
He currently continues his professional and academic work as a professor at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic of Medipol Mega University Hospital, carrying on with patient care and student education with the same enthusiasm and motivation as on his first day.
