Highlights
Prof. Mehmet Selim KOCABORA, MD was born in Istanbul in 1962. He completed his medical education at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He began his ophthalmology residency at Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital in 1987. In the 3rd year of his specialty training, he went to France and worked at the Ophthalmology Clinic of Grenoble University Hospital between 1990 and 1991; he then defended his thesis titled ""Color vision deficits and visual evoked potential changes in diabetes"" at Istanbul Şişli Etfal Hospital and received the title of Ophthalmology Specialist in 1992.
After his specialty training, he completed his compulsory service at Tatvan State Hospital and Çatalca State Hospital. He then worked as an Ophthalmology Specialist at Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital, to which he was subsequently appointed, between 1994 and 2010. While working at this institution, as a result of the examinations he took, he became Deputy Chief in 2000 and received the title of Associate Professor in 2008. In 2010, he was transferred to Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital; the following year, in 2011, he passed the Ministry of Health Clinical Chief examination and was appointed Chief of the Ophthalmology Clinic at Derince Training and Research Hospital. In 2012, he moved to the Department of Ophthalmology, Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, where he has been working as a Professor since 2014.
In the post-specialty period, he has focused mainly on medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology and cataract surgery.
He is a member of many professional associations in the field of ophthalmology, such as the Turkish Ophthalmological Association, the French Society of Ophthalmology, EURETINA, EVER and ESCRS.
With a total of 101 scientific articles, 59 in international peer-reviewed journals and 42 in national peer-reviewed journals, and 2 book chapters, the work of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Selim KOCABORA has received numerous citations in national and international literature. For his scientific work, he has received the third prize for best presentation at the ""TOD Glaucoma Meeting with Cases"" and the 3rd Best Scientific Poster Award at the ""14th EVRS Meeting.
