Prof. Dr. NEJAT AKALAN

Prof. Nejat Akalan, MD graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1980. He completed his neurosurgery specialization training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery between 1980 and 1986.

 Between 1988 and 1989, he gained international experience at the Department of Neurosurgery, Washington University, Seattle, USA. Between 1989 and 1993, he completed his doctoral studies in Neuroendocrine Surgery at Hacettepe University Institute of Neurological Sciences.

 Between 1992 and 1994, he served as an Assistant Professor at Hacettepe University Department of Neurosurgery, and in 1994 he received the title of Associate Professor. He continued his academic career at Hacettepe University, earning the title of Professor; until 2014, he served as a Professor at Hacettepe University Department of Neurosurgery, and also as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Epilepsy Surgery.

 Between 2014 and 2015, he worked as a Neurosurgery Specialist at Ankara Acıbadem Hospital. Currently, he continues his academic and clinical work as a Professor and Head of the Neurosurgery Department at Medipol University Hospital.

 Prof.Nejat Akalan, MD has been involved in numerous national and international professional organizations, including the Turkish Neurosurgery Association, the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy, EANS (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies), AANS (American Association of Neurological Surgeons), ISPN (International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery), ESPN (European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery), Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica, and the World Academy of Neurosurgery (WANS). He has also served as the Chairman of the EANS Education Committee and held management positions in various professional organizations.

 Prof. Akalan, MD, who has conducted academic research in various fields of neurosurgery, particularly pediatric neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery, has over 150 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters. He has also served on the editorial boards of scientific publications such as Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery, Child’s Nervous System, Neurosurgery, Acta Neurochirurgica, World Neurosurgery, and Turkish Neurosurgery.
