Prof. Dr. VEDAT GÖRAL

Prof.  Vedat Göral, MD completed his medical education at Diyarbakır University Faculty of Medicine in 1981 and his residency training in Internal Medicine at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1986, earning the title of Internal Medicine Specialist. His specialization thesis focused on the prevalence of lactose intolerance in patients with irritable bowel syndrome.

After working as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Diyarbakır SSK Hospital for one year, he began his subspecialty training in Gastroenterology at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1987, Associate Professor in 1992, and Professor in 1998.

In 1988, he was awarded the Monbusho Scholarship by the Government of Japan. He subsequently completed six months of Japanese language training at the University of Tsukuba, followed by nearly one and a half years of research on liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic diseases at the Department of Gastroenterology, Chiba University School of Medicine, where he worked with Prof. Dr. Kunio Okuda and Prof. Dr. Masao Ohto.

In 1993, he spent two months conducting research on gastric and intestinal diseases at the Department of Gastroenterology, Giessen Medical School, Germany, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Klör.

In 1998, he furthered his experience in endoscopy, particularly endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), at the Department of Gastroenterology, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London Medical School, UK, working with Prof. Dr. Iain M. Murray-Lyon.

In September 2025, he furthered his expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures at the Department of Gastroenterology, King's College Hospital in London.

He speaks English and Japanese.

Prof.  Vedat Göral, MD is a member of numerous national and international professional organizations, including the Turkish-Japanese University Graduates Association, the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology, the Association for the Fight Against Viral Hepatitis, the Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the HeBiPa Association, the European Group for Endoscopic Ultrasound, and IASGO (International Association of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists). Since 2009, he has served on the Supervisory Board of the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology.

He has authored numerous articles published in national and international journals and has presented his research at conferences both in Türkiye and abroad. He has delivered lectures in English at international scientific meetings and has chaired numerous sessions and conferences in Türkiye. He has authored more than 250 scientific papers, articles, and book chapters published in or presented through leading scientific journals and conferences. His scientific work has received the “Best Paper Award” at both National Gastroenterology Week and the HeBiPa Congress. In 1997, he also participated in an international project on amoebiasis.

Prof.  Vedat Göral, MD  served as Chair of the APASL (Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver) STC Istanbul Meeting, organized by one of the world's leading associations in the field of liver diseases, which was held on April 24–26, 2025. He successfully organized this international scientific meeting, which was attended by numerous physicians from abroad.

In addition to his academic and scientific work, Prof. Dr. Göral is the author of three books on healthy living: Ömrü Uzatan Alışkanlıklar (Habits That Prolong Life), Sağlığın 7 Kadim Sırrı (The 7 Ancient Secrets of Health), and Longevity: Sağlıklı, Mutlu ve Güzel Yaşlanmak (Longevity: Aging Healthily, Happily, and Beautifully).

Between 1995 and 1998, he produced and hosted the television program Dicle’den Gelen Şifa (Healing from the Tigris) on TRT 3.

He currently serves in the Department of Gastroenterology at Medipol Mega University Hospital and is also involved in teaching medical students at Medipol University Faculty of Medicine.
