Prof. Dr. VEDAT GÖRAL

He was born in Diyarbakır. He finished primary school at Ziya Gökalp Primary School and completed secondary and high school at Ziya Gökalp High School. He graduated as the top student from the Faculty of Medicine at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1981.

He became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 1986 and worked for one year as an Internal Medicine specialist at Diyarbakır SSI Hospital. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1987, Associate Professor in 1992, and became a full Professor in 1998.

In 1988, he was awarded a scholarship by the Japanese Government and spent nearly 1.5 years at the Department of Gastroenterology, Chiba University Faculty of Medicine, working with Prof. Dr. Kunio Okuda and Prof. Dr. Masao Ohto on studies related to the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

In 1993, he spent two months at the Department of Gastroenterology, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, working with Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Klör on research related to peptic ulcer disease.

In 1998, he worked in the Department of Gastroenterology at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, United Kingdom, with Prof. Dr. Iain M. Murray-Lyon, conducting studies related to endoscopy (ERCP).

In September 2025, he worked at the Department of Gastroenterology, King’s College Hospital, London, with Prof. Dr. Hussain Hayee.

He is fluent in English and Japanese.

He is a member of the Turkish-Japanese University Graduates Association, Turkish Society of Gastroenterology, Turkish Association for the Fight Against Viral Hepatitis, Liver Diseases Research Association, and HeBiPa Association. He is also a member of the European Group for Endoscopic Ultrasound and the International Association of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists (IASGO). Since 2009, he has served as a member of the Audit Committee of the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology.

He has published numerous articles in both national and international journals and has presented many papers at conferences abroad. He has delivered English-language lectures internationally and has chaired many sessions at domestic conferences. He was awarded the Best Paper Award at UGH.

He chaired the International APASL STC 2025 meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 24–26, 2025.

He is the author of three books: Habits That Extend Life, The 7 Ancient Secrets of Health, and Longevity: Aging Healthily, Happily, and Beautifully.

Between 1995 and 1998, he worked as a producer and host on TRT 3 for the program Healing from the Tigris (Dicle’den Gelen Şifa).
