Highlights

Prof. Dr. Yunus Oktay Atalay was born in 1976. He graduated from Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the Department of Anesthesiology, Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2008, earning the title of Specialist in Anesthesiology and Reanimation. Driven by a strong academic interest in clinical anatomy and regional anesthesia, he is currently pursuing advanced doctoral (PhD) research in Anatomy at Istanbul Medipol University, where he is in the dissertation phase of his studies.

Prof. Dr. Atalay began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2014. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2017 and appointed Professor at the International School of Medicine, Istanbul Medipol University, in 2023.

Prof. Dr. Atalay holds the prestigious DESAIC (Diplomate of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care) qualification, one of the highest international credentials in the field of anesthesiology. Reflecting this international recognition, he has served as an Official Examiner for the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EDAIC) oral examinations since 2019. In recognition of his clinical and academic achievements, he received Certificates of Appreciation from NATO and the Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2010.

Since 2021, Prof. Dr. Atalay has served as the Operating Room Coordinator at Medipol Mega University Hospital, Istanbul Medipol University, where he oversees multidisciplinary team coordination and operational efficiency within the surgical services. To further enhance his academic and clinical expertise, he completed a clinical observership as an Observing Anesthesiologist with the Acute Pain Service at Stanford University (Palo Alto Veterans Hospital, USA) in 2025. Previously, in 2016, he gained additional international clinical experience through observerships at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, University of Cincinnati, and Nationwide Children's Hospital, The Ohio State University.

Demonstrating strong leadership in academic organizations, Prof. Dr. Atalay has actively served on the organizing committees of the long-established Abant Anesthesia Symposium and was appointed Symposium President in 2026. In collaboration with the Turkish Society of Regional Anesthesia, he also organized two Cadaver Workshops at Istanbul Medipol University and led the organization of the Medipol Anesthesia Days scientific meeting on two occasions at Medipol Mega University Hospital.

Prof. Dr. Atalay has authored numerous national and international scientific publications that have received extensive citations. Together with Prof. Dr. Berrin Günaydın, he served as co-editor of the books Evidence-Based Clinical Practice in Obstetric Anesthesia and Analgesia (2025) and Pediatric Sedation and Analgesia. He also served as the Chief Translation Editor for the 9th edition of the internationally renowned textbook Yao & Artusio's Anesthesiology and as a Section Editor for the 8th edition of Barash Clinical Anesthesia and the 9th edition of Miller's Anesthesia.
