Prof. Dr. ZEKİ ŞEKERCİ

Prof. Zeki Şekerci, MD was born in Ankara in 1956. He completed his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1980.

 He completed his specialization training in Neurosurgery at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 1881 and 1987, receiving the title of Specialist in Neurosurgery.

 Following his specialization training, he worked as a chief assistant in the Neurosurgery clinic of Ankara Numune Hospital, where he was assigned due to his mandatory state service.

 During his professional life, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine, as a faculty member and head of department at Kırıkkale University Faculty of Medicine, as the Director of the Institute of Health Sciences, as a faculty member and head of department in Neurosurgery at Düzce University Faculty of Medicine, as the Clinic Chief, Training and Administrative Manager at the Neurosurgery Clinic of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital, and as a Neurosurgery specialist at Gülhane Military Medical Academy Haydar Paşa Training and Research Hospital during his military service.

 At the Department of Neurosurgery and Research Laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Copenhagen, he worked alongside Prof. Fleming Gjerris on clinical studies and research on hydrocephalus.

 Since 2016, he has continued his professional career as a faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery at Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, within the International Faculty of Medicine.

 Between 2014 and 2017, he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association.

 He has made significant contributions to the development of vascular surgery and hybrid surgery in Türkiye, and to the orientation of young neurosurgery specialists towards these fields.

 During his presidency of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association, he organized international congresses with the Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons (USA), the German Neurosurgical Society (GNS), and the Iranian Society of Neurosurgeons (INS), focusing on mutual training and information exchange.

 He has given numerous invited speeches at national and international congresses.

 During his presidency of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association, he spearheaded the establishment of the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy.

 He served as the president of the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy between 2022 and 2024.

 He is a member of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association and the Turkish Skull Base Society.

 He is the recipient of the Certificate of Distinguished Service and the Medal of Distinguished Service, awarded by the Board of Directors of the Turkish Neurosurgery Association to professionals who have contributed to the development of Turkish and International Neurosurgery.

 He has numerous published articles and book chapters in international and national journals.
