Spec. Dr. (Specialist Dr.) MEHMET FAİK ÇETİNDAĞ

Specialist Mehmet Faik Çetindağ, MD, was born in Elazığ in 1961. After completing his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1984, he completed his two-year compulsory service in Sofular village, Kaman, Kırşehir. He completed his Radiation Oncology specialization at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1990, earning the title of Radiation Oncology Specialist. His specialization thesis focused on Hodgkin's Disease, a 5-year case study, and the evaluation of the treatment plan. Following his specialization, he completed his military service as a Second Lieutenant in the Radiation Oncology Clinic of Ankara Gülhane Military Hospital after a two-month basic military training in Samsun. After completing his military service, he started working as a Specialist Doctor at Ankara Abdurrahman Yurtarslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital. During his 18 years at Ankara Abdurrahman Yurtarslan Oncology Hospital, he gained experience in Head and Neck Cancers, Childhood Cancers, Urogenital Cancers, Prostate Cancer, Gynecological Cancers, Brachytherapy, and Lymphomas. He participated in the installation phases of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy and Cyberknife stereotactic radiosurgery at the Oncology Hospital. After continuing Cyberknife stereotactic radiosurgery treatments for one year, he was assigned to Atatürk Hospital in Ankara to operate the newly acquired Tomotherapy device. He has been performing Image-Guided Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IG-IMRT) with the Tomoterapi device for over eight years. This is currently the longest period of experience achieved with Tomoterapi in our country. During this period, he worked as the Administrative and Educational Supervisor at the Radiation Oncology Clinic of Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. He participated in the commission established within the Ministry of Health to investigate the procurement of proton therapy devices and the latest innovations. In this context, important proton centers and manufacturers in Europe, America, and Japan were visited by the commission, and a report was prepared to be submitted to the Ministry of Health. He attended three proton therapy courses, two in Europe (Germany and Italy) and one in the United States (Boston). He retired in October 2018 and began working as a Specialist Doctor in charge of the Radiation Oncology Clinic at Medipol Mega University Hospital. For the past 7 years, he has been working as the head physician of the Radiation Oncology Clinic at the same hospital.

He has published 17 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 12 articles in national peer-reviewed journals, and presented 54 papers at national and international congresses. He has also written a chapter on radiotherapy in a cancer book.

Shifa Hospital, Gaza, Palestine: In 2006, I was assigned as a team leader by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey for a two-month training program to make the Radiotherapy Center in Gaza operational. Due to equipment shortages, we were only able to work for two weeks.
Yemen Sana Oncology Hospital: In 2010, at the request of the Ministry of Health's Department of Foreign Relations, I participated in a two-week Radiation Oncology Training program in Sana'a, Yemen.
