150 Watt Holmium Laser Energy

Prostate enlargement, which becomes more common with advancing age, can gradually press on the urinary tract, making urination difficult. HoLEP plays an important role in the definitive treatment of this condition. HoLEP, in short, refers to the removal of the prostate gland using holmium laser energy through a minimally invasive, non-incisional (closed) surgical method.

HoLEP requires holmium laser energy of over 60 Watts. The newest and most powerful holmium laser currently available is 150 Watts. With 150 Watt holmium laser energy, the duration of the surgery is reduced.

The 150 Watt holmium laser provides a unique advantage, allowing large amounts of tissue to be removed even in very large prostates without making any incisions in the body. It also reduces the risk of bleeding and shortens hospital stays to one or two days. While even with the best treatment, the need for repeat surgery in the first 10 years is around 15%, this rate is only 0.7% with HoLEP. This means there is a high likelihood that you will not require another prostate surgery.
